emceeKilla Interview

"I think with whoever gets in power, we will still be in a war, the economy will still be down and slowly picking up, our taxes will be raised and the poor will still be hit the hardest. All views aside I would like to see Liberal Democrats get the vote just to give them a chance, what have we got to lose?"

Politically-minded MC emceeKilla featured on the very first volume of 'On The Radar'. Since then he's gone on to release his debut album 'Mind Of A Tehranist'. I was reading his blog and realised that he had a lot to say, and people with things to say get interviews:

Certified Banger: For those who haven’t heard your music; introduce yourself and describe your music:

emceeKilla: I’m emceeKilla; a rapper originally from North London but have lived in the sticks and Nottingham too over the years. My music is conscious, deep and heartfelt and focuses on the reality of social pressures and political issues and many other types of high rank buggery. I am versatile though and do like to move away from that when I can and want to.

CB: What inspires you to write and record?

eK: Everyday situations are the main thing that inspire me; anything that I feel is interesting to rap about I tend to rap about. I’m not really a materialistic person so fashion and jewellery aren’t things that inspire me to write - I write a lot more about the ups and downs of the life we lead whether it be through my eyes or another person’s. My surroundings also play a big part, I live in the city and gain a lot of inspiration from just witnessing things walking down the road but also have people in the countryside I see which again inspires me to write as things are seen from a totally different perspective there. Beats are also a great inspiration.

'Mind Of A Tehranist' - emceeKilla (album review)

An album almost based solely on one man’s deep mistrust of all authority might sound daunting but emceeKilla’s ‘Mind Of A Tehranist’ lightens the blow with upbeat headnod productions and likeable flows.

For just under 50 minutes emceeKilla “speak[s] a tough message but keep[s] it fun”. The message in question nears on conspiracy theory but challenges how the listener thinks about government and media. Whilst you may not agree with his thoughts, it’s certainly good to question the status quo and how much you might be ignoring. Towards the end of the album subject matter lightens and changes a little with ‘More British’ and ‘Jah Guide’.

'Brick Wall' features Australian MCs Frenic, Koziosko and Plarks and 'Web Of Deceit' features Manage.

‘Mind of a Tehranist’ will be out soon on Dealmaker Records and can be bought digitally at Amazon.

'Jah Guide'/'More British' - emceeKilla (single review)

emceeKilla was one of the first artists to feature on Certified Banger's 'On The Radar' series with his track 'The Guns Of Britain'. Now he is readying himself to drop an album on Dealmaker Records.

In the meantime, he's dropping a 4 track digital download bundle featuring a very nice selection of his tracks. 'The Guns Of Britain' is one of the tracks, now let me tell you about the others:

'Jah Guide' heads up proceedings with emceeKilla coming as a cross between Task Force and Jack Johnson with a less angry touch of Plan B. It's a guitar reggae track with some top lyrics on life and politics - nothing too heavy and done in a very happy-sounding way.

'More British' samples the Grange Hill theme tune and the basis is this: emceeKilla is more British than the most stereotypical British things (e.g. "More British than cooked breackfast, roast and chips"). Tis good jokes. 'Marr British' is a heavy rock workout of 'More British' performed by Marr-Head and featuring Johnny Crump - interesting, it may even gain some radio play!

'Jah Guide'/'More British' will be available to download on 12th October and his 'Mind of a Tehranist' album will follow shortly after.
