Enlish - Tender (free download)

A second leak from Enlish's upcoming album Rap Ain't Real, My Life Is Real. Here he uses the old I Used To Love H.E.R. style concept of personifying hip-hop as a female, but it is done well, and Wizard's production is typically solid. I prefer this to the previous leak from a couple of weeks ago, Brain Basher.

Hailing from about as south of the UK as you can get before dropping off of Land's End (literally), Enlish (AKA Big Dave) left the shores of Cornwall for the shores of Brighton after smashing up the local Hip Hop scene after six or so years of killing shows on the circuit as both an MC and a DJ. 5 years in Brighton, 3 mixtapes, an EP (all received to critical acclaim), numerous guest appearances with the likes of his crew - mates Dr Syntax & Stig Of The Dump on their debut albums and a trip around the world later, Enlish is finally ready to drop his debut single 'Arrogance Is Bliss' on F.U. Music. Produced by Ido and featuring Sean Price (Boot Camp Click), Stig Of The Dump (Lewis Recordings/F.U. Music) and DJ Manipulate (Nausecorps/G.O.D.) on the cuts, the song does exactly what it says on the tin. The imminent release of this single will be quickly followed up with not one, but two LPs dropping simultaneously, 'Cold Lazarus' and 'Rap Ain't Real, My Life Is Real'.

Having been recognised initially for his quick wit, comedic raps and freestyle ability that has seen him blaze trails through opponents in rhyme battles since 1999 right up to the present day, plus a natural charisma that has resulted in his hosting many renowned and successful Hip Hop nights, it was simply a matter of time before Enlish made the transition from live performance and battling to the release of a full length, original project. Having shared stages with many luminaries from the world of Hip Hop, beginning at the age of 15 with Cutmaster Swift, the list includes names such as Jehst, Rodney P & Skitz, Taskforce, Phi Life Cypher, Klashnekoff, Foreign Beggars, Tim Westwood, DJ Format, DJ Yoda, People Under The Stairs, Akil (Jurassic 5), Supernatural, Guru (Gangstarr, RIP), Raekwon (Wu Tang Clan), Inspectah Deck (Wu Tang Clan) and The Clipse to name but a few.

More recently you may have seen or heard of him tearing shows up and down the country as a proud member of TEAM HATE, acting as hype man for Stig Of The Dump with DJ Manipulate controlling things behind the decks.

Now, however, is the time for Enlish's music to speak for itself. Both LPs still retain the comedic essence, hard hitting punchlines and braggadocios, substance abusing capers that dedicated listeners already know and love, but with an added twist, with certain tracks showcasing Enlish's deeper, more reflective and introspective views on life.

'So Massive 3' - Enlish (free download)

I pretty much love everything that comes out of Brighton's Hip Hop scene - they just know how to have fun with their rap whilst keeping it lyrical and full of top class rhymes. Enlish has dropped 'So Massive 3' and it's pretty cool.

The mixtape features Dr. Syntax, Scizzahz and Magic. If you didn't already hear the Scizzahz/Enlish battle on the internet then check out a bit of it on track 8 - it's proper funny freestyle (as is the cheesy film name dropping 'Valentines Freestyle'). 'Clap Clap RMX' is pretty funky - Big Dave rides it just how it should be ridden! Check this out for some party music for you and your cool mates:

'Ear To The Beat' - Wizard (album review)

Producer Wizard’s latest offering is something he should be proud of. Over 22 self produced tracks he’s gathered 30 MCs from both the UK and the US. I don’t know how long Wizard has been making beats but he’s naturally gifted and it’s no surprise that all these artists want to spit over his varied but always immense productions.

Farma G drops in with a split persona on the heavy ‘The Anthem’, Micall Parknsun raps as hungrily as ever on ‘The Land Of The Lost’, Verb T rocks over the jazzy but hard ‘The Dungeon’ and Jack Flash examines himself on the piano-led ‘Sound Of A Genius’. Ramson Badbonez brings golden bars as usual on the punchy ‘Jammin’ On The Street’ and SonnyJim and Conflix wrap the album up with ‘King’ – sure to give you a long-lasting screwface. Other UK MCs who appear on equally as awesome tracks are Baron Samedi, 777, Unfriendly Neighbours, Ed Strong, Enlish (on the very true to life ‘Jealous Type’), Rup, Influx and Vecks and Scizzahz.

Tragic Allies, Erg One and Singapore Kane kick things off for the Americans on the threatening ‘Run For Cover’ (a joint production with Kelakovski) and Random gives one of the best lyrical performances on ‘New World’ as he tells the story of an African being taken into slavery. Verbal Kent and Wizard keep heads moving with ‘Fast Forward’, the album’s non-cheesy love song. Other US rappers to feature are Lil E, J-Black, Mike Mass and Altruisms.

'Ido Presents: Sound Bites' - Vecks (album review)

Having the right voice for Hip Hop is a handy weapon and when clever rhyme writing skills and faultless delivery complete your arsenal; half the battle is already won. Thankfully Vecks fires off over a heavy selection of Ido’s beats ensuring that victory is his on his debut LP ‘Sound Bites’.

Ido’s 13 original productions will keep your neck snapping for just under 40 minutes (a very listener-friendly length for an album) as Vecks effortlessly raps on an egotistical tip. If you’re looking for social commentary and other such sombre subjects then look elsewhere. If often hilarious put downs, punch lines and self-aggrandisement is more your thing then look no further than a place that sells this CD.

Vecks invites a select few guests along in the form of Longusto, Scizzahs, Enlish and Teej – all of whom contribute to the overall impression of the album.
