Loudmouth Melvin & Pyro Bars

Loudmouth has been doing his thing for a while now. The first time he came to my attention was on the track 'name drop' a few years back which featured Loudmouth mentioning bare uk rappers names in bars. Rodney P and Skitz supported the tune and ive seen Loudmouths name crop up many a time since. He was also a member of Terra Danjas Aftershock collective at one point.

Anyway here is a new track from Loudmouth featuring Pyro Bars. The track is called 'Ice Viper' and is taken from a forthcoming collaboration project between the two called 'Freestyle Sessions'.

'EP 1' - Loudmouth Melvin (free download)

I've been supporting Loudmouth Melvin since the first 'On The Radar' release in 2008, back when he was just Loudmouth. He's appeared on tracks with Professor Green, Charlie Sloth, Skandal, Black The Ripper, Skillit and America's Saukrates and now he's dropped the first of four free EPs.

The simply named 'EP 1' has a simple concept - bona fide wordplay. Loudmouth Melvin, you see, is a real lyricist who has the knack of turning punchlines and tongue twisters into full conceptual tracks.

Each of the 5 tracks on offer lacks compromise and to prove his confidence in his product the especially heavy 'Fill The Air' featuring Mentalist, Mystro and Skandal comes last. He knows you'll listen through to this point without switching off - saving the best 'til last is something not a lot of artists can do.

And Now For Something A Little Different...

It might surprise you to know that I don't always listen to Hip Hop. Some people even send me some different kinds of music so I thought I'd give some of it some shine:

I've been noticing Nneka's name for a few months now and I got the chance to check her track 'Walking'. DJ Farhot, the track's producer, has taken a Curtis Mayfield composition ('Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um (Curious Mind)' as sung by Major Lance) and made it into fat slice of headnod Neo Soul with a hint of the old Negro spirituals. Nneka's voice is sweet and her message is positive, also with a hint of the old Negro spirituals. Lovely stuff.

I've also got possibly the strangest thing Stones Throw will ever release. 'The Minimal Wave Tapes: Vol. 1' is a compilation of Minimal Wave - an 80s genre of "underground DIY electronic music". Some tracks are more minimal than others, some sound like the soundtrack old school computer games (but with real singing voices) and some really remind me of the old school cinema infomercials. Whatever your preferred genre, this will certainly expand your mind! Personal favourites are Linear Movement's 'Way Out Of Living' and 'Blurred' by Turquoise Days. It's out on 15th March.

Next up is The Last Skeptik's latest project. It's a remix album on which he does nothing like he's ever done before. There are no dusty samples only original electrofied compositions. Some of the tracks he tackles are unfamiliar to me so I can't comment on whether he's done them justice or not - Marina and the Diamonds, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Daniel Merriweather, Hong Kong in the 60s, and David's Lyre all get unconventionally remixed in a way that requires loud playback. These particular remixes made me wonder whether I would keep listening if they came on the radio or whether I only like them because of a knowledge of the artist behind them - hmmm, thought provoking. The rest of the remixes are more in the Hip Hop vein with Loudmouth Melvin, Joe Budden, The Streets, Brad Strut, Lowkey, Mudmowth and Eslam Jawaad all getting reworked with varying degrees of electro-funk. That's going to be available for free on 5th April but you can go here to check out many of the tracks.

Finally, Distiller Records sent me an interesting thing: 'Flush' by Losers. It features feisty female MC Envy alongside Riz MC on a dance floor shaker all about falling out with ones other half. It won't be to everyone's taste (including mine) but Skism's dubstep remix is exceedingly heavy as is Sukh Knight's meaning that it might just appeal to those into that kind of thing. 'Flush' is out on 5th April.

Free UK Hip Hop from Black The Ripper, Loudmouth Melvin, Py-Ro, Genesis Elijah, Jabba The Kut and Iron Braydz

First up is ‘Just A Dream’ by Black The Ripper. It features Pierre and Loudmouth Melvin and you may remember I posted up the video for this a few weeks ago.

Loudmouth Melvin is busy because he’s also produced this track by Py-Ro – ‘It’s Not Long’ (you might remember this one from the video too).

Jabba Tha Kut has an album in the pipeline and here’s a little taster of what’s to come – ‘Get Ya Live-O’ featuring MAB on vocal duties.

Iron Braydz also has an album on the way. ‘Devil May Cry’ will be out sometime next year. In the meantime here’s his track ‘Golden Legacy’.

Lastly, remember the Wio-K track featuring Kyza? Well there’s a dub remix of it for you now.

Here's the new Black The Ripper track 'Just A Dream' produced by K-Nite 13 and featuring Pierre & Loudmouth Melvin. The track's taken from Black The Ripper's forthcoming release 'Black Is Beautiful 2' which is coming soon.

7 UK Hip Hop Downloads...

It's been a long time, I shouldna... yeah you know it. I'm back just like all your favourite rappers everytime they bring out a new LP. Here's some dope stuff to step to:

Loudmouth Melvin's 'Summer Breeze' has a summery vibe (can you believe it?), a suitably silly chorus and some British Jay-Z type lyrics! It's taken from an E.P. he's putting out in August so watch for that.

I know I said I wasn't going to check any Jacko tributes but this is Sway, and 'The King Full Stop' is properly inspired - nice.

I'm loving the name of 'Bars on a Bass, Drum 'n' Snare' by Tempa, Shifty Spirit and Scorzayzee - it pretty much does what it says on the tin and it's nice. According to HHC it's produced by A.R. Mullah, it heads up a new compilation titled ‘CRS Entertainment’ which will drop in September featuring cats like Razor, Tayla Jade, Jah Digga and more.

A few heads on Twitter were all talking about this gem from back in the day: Marko Magik - 'Ladies Favourite' - go on have a massive chuckle!

Professor Green dropped the next track from 'The Lecture #2', it's called 'Open All Hours' and if you didn't catch it (because DMCA took down my post) then here's the first one: 'Ballers is Bouncin''.

If you missed that last one then your probably missed this too: Mystro's version of Drake's 'Best I Ever Had' entitled 'Mess I Ever Had'.

'Top Ten List' - The Last Skeptik's Remix

The Last Skeptik has been busy over the last few weeks making remixes of pretty current tracks. His latest reworking is of Loudmouth Melvin's 'Top Ten List':

Awesome concept (which has to spawn other versions surely!) even if I don't agree with his top 10 - lot of 'Grime' MCs here for someone who I consider a very Hip Hop MC. It's all good though, no doubt they've all got skills! His "'If I did a top 10... list" bit at the end is cool too!
